This book shatters poker orthodoxy. It puts the math guys on tilt and the game theory guys at odds. It is training in the skills of the original no-limit, cash game. The book drills down on a few basic concepts which drive a style of play that aggressively blows through traditional theories about hand frequency, calculating raises, starting cards, pot odds, play styles and all the other overtalked categories of poker nuance. Caldwell shows the reader how to consistently beat the medium stakes casino and neighborhood games.
Bet The Mind of Poker Great Books of Poker Book 1 edition by Firth Caldwell Humor Entertainment eBooks
It is a small diary of a "winning" maniac, like these that you can see some times in online poker microstakes. He describes how he plays at the casino 1$/2$ cash games (the lowest level offered in the casinos) and sometimes win
, sometimes loose. So he thinks that he is good at the game and decided to write a book. He wins money playing against
donks in cash games . He never plays tournaments.
Of course it is very easy to beat casino tourists and some recreational players using only aggression
but ...it is sure that any microstakes online poker regular could beat Mr. Caldwell very easily ...
The book could be very useful only if you want to beat your grandmother, your aunt, a friend that doesn't remember what is better a flush or a straight, any drunk friend , and other "players" like these, in home games ... This method can win all their money (but some times loose all your money if you run in bad luck!) But only if your grandmother and your aunt and have not any REAL poker experience and any basic mathematical background. If they have, it would be easy for them to find a way to crash you...
But his playing is VERY EFFECTIVE against two types of "fishy" players:
Those who are weak tight (folding a lot against aggression) and those who goes "on tilt" easily.
Mr Caldwell knows these and selects his opponents... In the book he describes the kind of players he is avoiding and the kind
of players he likes to "bull" with aggression or fool with aggression with nothing and in the next hand hit them with the nuts. So he can beat fishes.
But all these have nothing to do with the world of the professional poker. For any poker professional this book is useful only if he wants to know the emotions and motivations of these maniacs who likes playing poker for excitement, to express their inner aggression... It is sold for Kindle for 14.70$, it doesn't worth more than 3$...
It is funny that the guy , as a megalomaniac, set the initial price o his book for 400$, but the publisher lowered If it!
If you are a learning amateur want to learn how to play good poker , don't buy the book. If you are a winning player, you could buy it just for fun...

Bet The Mind of Poker Great Books of Poker Book 1 edition by Firth Caldwell Humor Entertainment eBooks Reviews
Caldwell gasses on with stories of hands he played & inserts a few quotes from Doyle Brunson which make the book mildly interesting. However, there is nothing new of substance to make this book worth $4.99, let alone the $400 he proudly says it is worth. Some of the so-called "advice" in the book is to "dread" Asian women & so-called "uncles" who might remind you of Brunson. Caldwell loses to such players and therefore assumes that you will too. Also, aggressively bet and raise to isolate a single opponent on whom you have position. If you believe that a book containing trite comments about judging your opponents based on gender, race, & age because Caldwell loses to such players & aggressively betting to isolate an opponent on whom you have position is worth $4.99 then by all means squander your money on this book. However, if you buy this book & find youself standing in a pile of BS quickly pull up your pant legs because it will be too late to save your shoes.
all the same
not so much an instruction book but a book that advocates a style of play. a short book that can be quickly read and whether you want to play this style or not, at least you understand better those who play this style.
This book is a lot different than other poker books. Very practical approach for $1/$2 NL games. Shows that TV poker is completely different than your typical casino game
I have been playing a long time and this advice is advice very few people can actually use. The lag player wins big and loses big. So few ever do much more than move chips around a table. If this guy is really telling the truth, then he doesn't realize he is one of those rare players that can play that style and know when to quit. Most spew the longer they stick around. His style is always fun to play, it just seems to always end so badly.
I am so pumped to play after reading this book. This is the not the standard dribble you read in most books, (raise 3.5x from the Cutoff when you hold Pocket Eights or better and nobody else has entered the pot, or lead into the pre-flop raiser 65% of the time when the Flop is suited, etc..) This book encourages outside-the-box creative thinking, and making the types of moves that stun and confuse your opponents. Not everyone will be comfortable employing the wisdom so generously handed down in this book, but even if you ultimately can't take it to this extreme, it is certainly worth the read. Even if you don't use it, you'll definitely have a better understanding of your opponents that do.
I have been playing poker and reading books on poker for the better part of 2 decades. I am not a professional poker player in any way although I do pretty well in small cash games and enjoy the history of poker. Mr Caldwell pours the nuggets of wisdom out in this little book in a way that can be put to immediate use by any player. He firmly pinpoints the often uncomfortable area of bold confrontational poker playing while backing it up with the basic principles and rules of poker. I very much enjoyed his delivery and the lack of hesitation Mr Caldwell demonstrates in pointing out the failings of some of the great snobs of poker and the strengths of some of the poker royalty. More to the point I put his advice to the test. I had a great time playing, made some money and learned something. I would recommend this book for any serious poker player if not to put to use the ideas presented then perhaps to be able to recognize a player of this type at the table for your own protection or profit.
