A Pale Horse Part 1 eBook Adam Wolf Reviews

The premises of the book is good but some things didn't allow me to enjoy this story. There are many individuals in the book with no prominent character. Two brothers with very foul language come across a Pandora box that they open and set off a pandemic. It could have used some closer proof reading by a knowledge person. When you talk about someone waist but write waste instead it destroys the meaning you are trying to convey. The story kind of leaves you hanging and the disease is beginning to spread around the modern world with our transportation.
This apocalyptic tale, the first book in a series, has potential. Which is why I was disappointed with the details of the bowel movement starting on the first page. If those unnecessary details were left out, and the reader could focus more on the creepy scene in the rest stop restroom, the scare factor would have been higher.

Had I not been consciously trying to block out the image of Eugene and his bowel movement, I could have appreciated was probably the most tense scene of the entire book.

The descriptions, including the stench of death, were powerful. I always appreciate writers using the sense of smell to pull a reader further into a scene. The book was well paced, and I found myself on the edge of my seat, waiting to see what Eugene would do when he encounters this mysterious item. The characters were three dimensional, and even in this short introduction to this series, I already felt invested in their lives. And, of course, their fates.

I look forward to Book #2; however, I hope I won’t have to read about anyone doing their bathroom business. It is for this reason alone that I couldn’t rate it 4 stars.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
I'm glad I didn't buy this book, but it was entertaining. It had some bad language and I really wouldn't recommend it.
Do yourself a favor and move along, there is nothing to see here. If you don't believe me, buy the "book" and read the first "chapter". To be fair, those who enjoy an unusual fixation on bowel movements may be highly entertained.
Adam Wolf's tale A Pale Horse begins in a roadside restroom with a Eugene Pence, a modern day Pandora. But Wolf hints that what Eugene unleashed promises fatal consequences on a global scale. Visceral descriptions, well-sketched characters and tense pacing create a three-dimensional world facing an apocalyptic crisis that will leave mankind on its knees and the reader on the edge of their seat, wanting more. With a writing style that resembles a mix of Dan Brown and Stephen King, Wolf delivers a strong start.
Nothing special. Not enough to make me read anymore in the series though. I just didn't find it very interesting. Oh, and the toilet humor wasn't offensive in the least.
Poor Eugene. His curiosity is as mine – incorrigible. You just know he is going to get himself into trouble with it. And he does. Does he ever.

"This is when he should have stepped from the restroom, allowed the door to swing shut behind him, this is when he should have made a beeline to his brother’s Volvo and never looked back, purged his memory of what had transpired, of the stench, of its source, that wraithlike man who he felt with near certainty was not a man at all. But alas, …"

And so the apocalysm begins – with a visit to the bathroom.

The characters were great. I got a pop-idol (not mentioning names) sensation with “perfect” Priscilla describing Lukey Grail. And then we have her little brother Warren! What a wonderful description of just how obnoxious 10 year old siblings can be.

Eugene and the siblings were my favorites. All three of them are incredibly pains, yet somehow likeable.

Luna Perez is the kind of person who has seen the underbelly of life and survived all it has thrown at her thus far. Whether she survives what Eugene brought into the world is difficult to say.

"A Pale Horse" perfectly illustrates what modern transportation can mean when it comes to disease. The swine-flu comes to mind.

Adam Wolf has stated that "A Pale Horse" will come in installments. The ending of episode 1 was in a perfect spot. I did not feel as though I was left hanging at all and actually thought it was the end – albeit an abrupt end. Now I know better and will probably get the second installment.

The author warns of R-rated content. There wasn’t – not in Norway anyways. But if you do not like “bad language” you will be in trouble.
